Fitonutrientes

Phytonutrients. Reinventing the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry

PALMVIT has been created with the aim to reinvent food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic market through processes and technology necessary for the production of highly profitable nutraceuticals.

Chemical Engineering solutions based on component selection for Molecular Distillation and Supercritical Fluid technology allow to extract tocopherols and tocotrienols, sterols, squalene, carotenes, isoflavones of soybean oil and palm oil resulting in a superior concentration degree products than the market currently offers.

Our industrial projects to create Plants of Phytonutrients combine various stages of molecular distillation including liquid to liquid extraction, fractionation in solvent phase and hydrogenation. Furthermore our processes can be applied on crude oils as well as oils obtained as residue through refinement processes; unique procedures make our product developments reach the highest levels of purity.

Natural Vitamin E

Phytonutrients. Natural Vitamin E (tocopherols and tocotrienols)

The excellent properties of natural vitamin E, and competitive value against the synthetic equivalent, is its high antioxidant capacity and important clinical applications proven to slow down the cellular aging process, prevent clogging of arteries, strengthen the immune system, fight Alzheimer’s disease as well as prevent various types of cancer.

Used in supplements, anti-aging creams and food products in order to extend their shelf life, it is not surprising that demand for tocopherols  grows at a rate of 7.3% (10,900 Tons in 2013) and generates a worldwide turnover of  US$ 611.9 millions (Global Industry Analysis).

“Clear health benefits of vitamin E intake in the diet have been demonstrated due to its contribution to protection of cell constituents from oxidative damage. “

EFSA. European Food Safety Authority. 2012

Among the various components of the vitamin E family tocotrienol presents itself as a natural antioxidant with highest potential for growth in pharmaceutical industry. Present in palm oil, rice oil and wheat bran, recent medical research do not hesitate to classify it as the most powerful antioxidant containing the highest level of neuroprotective and anticholestorogenic qualities.

Strokes, prostate cancer, pancreatic and breast cancer, type 2 diabetes, extensive use of tocotrienol for all these diseases influences markets to commercialize it directly as a “pharmaceutical product”. Tests carried out in 2009 with animals in India and Malaysia showed how palm oil tocotrienols reduce blood glucose, dyslipidemia and oxidative stress in diabetic rats. It also is able to prevent progress of changes occurring in the vessel wall affected by Diabetes mellitus.

Tocotrienols are the next generation of Vitamin E and the best strategy to stand out the well-developed market for Vitamin E.

Phytonutrients. Sterols

Phytonutrients. Sterols

Sterols are one of the most efficient sources to inhibit intestinal lipid absorption, hence they are considered the spearhead in the fight against cholesterol.

Added to supplements, dairy products, margarine, juices and other dietary products, sterols are also used by the pharmaceutical industry for the manufacture of statins and prohormones.

Sterols market grows unstoppable at a rate of 8.2% every year generating a business volume of over US$ 564.5 million to producers of this type of phytonutrient. Global Phytosterol Market. Grand View Research. 2013

Phytonutrients. Squalene

Phytonutrients. Squalene

Major antioxidant as well as a potent stimulant of the immune system with excellent antiaging properties, squalene is a unique component extracted from animal and plant sources. Used widely as immune adjuvant in vaccines and treatments related to autoimmune skin diseases, this phytonutrient also proves to be useful in cholesterol biosynthesis facilitating its faecal excretion as well as elimination of other bile fluids. In cosmetic it is known for its anti-aging properties.

In cosmetic, and due to its skin-identical molecular structure,  squalene is known for its anti-aging properties and is used in softening, moisturising and antiseptic creams applied to the skin, as well as makeup products and cosmeceuticals.

With a clear competitive advantage of vegetable squalene against the one obtained from shark hunting this component is firmly positioned in the market with a rate of annual growth of 10.3%.

Phytonutrients. Natural Provitamin A (Carotenes)

There are countless properties of Vitamin A related to healthy eye sight and skin. Palm oil, being one of major sources of beta-carotene in the world*, have proved a crucial component to mitigate the consequences related to sun sensitivity diseases, such as protoporphyria, or age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Used by the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries for skin and eyes protection as well as in foods, beverages, encapsulated supplements and creams, beta-carotene represent the latest generation of natural food dyes, most used in the food industry, shaping a market that generated more than US$ 429 million in 2013 (Global Industry Analysis).

* The crude palm oil contains 15 times more carotenes than carrots and 300 times more than tomato.
